 DIANNE ZACK “My husband Zack and I began our ‘glass addiction’ in the late ‘70’s, beginning with our work in commission architectural glass and autonomous panels. We worked with lead, copper foil, fusing, fire painting, sand-carving and extensive restoration. Our fascination with blown glass lead to the opening of Symmetry Gallery in 1990, focusing on hand blown American Studio glass. While jewelry was the last thing on our minds when we began, we soon discovered that people LOVED jewelry …especially GLASS jewelry. “More than six years ago, I met Stevi Belle at the Rosen Show in Philadelphia, and she encouraged me to host an exhibit of handmade glass beads. I happened to acquire a copy of the Rockwell Show Catalog, and as I looked through the stunning images, I thought I found heaven! With the help of Stevi, and Lynn Strolin, a local beadmaker, the first show, The Beautiful Bead, was an instant success. Lynn graciously offered to do demos during the exhibit; she gently but persistently encouraged me to try my hand at the torch. I did, and you can guess the rest of the story… “Our annual bead exhibit has special meaning to me personally. Since the gallery opened, my time was spent tending to the day-to-day operation of a growing business; creative energy was spent focusing on the gallery’s needs. My introduction into the bead world has helped me get back into the pleasure and satisfaction of making objects by hand. In addition, I’ve found a community of warm, enthusiastic and nurturing individuals who are eager to share their ‘addiction ‘. I’m honored and delighted to belong to the fold.” |
